[ He's surprisingly worked up about this, but as much as he'd rather drag Akira here, there's nothing much Hibiki can do about without the boy's approval. ]
[ then he'd require certain distractions. anyway, he shows up as promised, hoodie and all, hood tugged up over his head. it's been his thing ever since he was suspected dead in tokyo. whenever he was feeling awkward or out of place, he tugged the hoodie up and kind of disappeared into the world. this is no exception. so with a slight hesitation, he knocks. ]
[ Hibiki doesn't open the door for him right away. Keeping himself in check during a telepathic conversation was much easier, but here comes the real thing. He takes a deep breath and welcomes him with quirked up lips. It shouldn't be a revelation that it's a forced one—how could he smile after learning all these things. ]
Hey, come in. [ There's no need to beat around the bush, probably. ] What do you want to talk about?
[ annnnnd he's tugging on his bangs again. restless. utterly restless. ]
... I'm sorry. For being an ass earlier. [ he bites the inside of his cheek, nearly drawing blood. ] It's ... complicated. I'll tell you the whole story.
You were an ass to me? I didn't notice. [ Alright, now it's a smile. A dry one, but definitely not forced. ] I'd appreciate it, but if you're not feeling like telling me...don't push yourself.
[ He can be surprisingly considerate...when he wants. ]
[ when he wants. akira nods and just ... heads over to sit on the edge of the bed. his hand comes up instantly to scrub at his face, as if the bad feelings will go away. ]
... Right. So, I guess the short version of it is that he's a detective, he hates me and my friends for detective reasons, so he infiltrates our group and goes thieving with us. Except that it's all just a ruse to get close to us - me, I guess - so he can kill me. Because my friends and I were keeping him from fulfilling his super villain revenge plot. Anyway... my friends and I figured out what he was planning before, so we tricked him.
And then he got pissed when he realized I was still alive and tried to kill us all again. Mostly just me. [ he falls quiet, tugging at his bangs, nearly hard enough to rip them out. ] ... So we fought. And we won. But then he kind of sacrificed himself to save me and my friends.
[ Following Akira, Hibiki rests beside him and subconsciously reaches out for his hand, holding it throughout the whole story. ]
So that's why you don't want him dead. [ That's a legitimate reason, after all. ] Because he wanted...no, he redeemed himself in the end. [ A squeeze. ] I suppose he doesn't remember making the sacrifice?
[ akira isn't sure how he feels about that. hibiki's hand is grounding, though, even though his own head is conflicted. ]
Not at all. He doesn't remember that we all know what he's up to. He thinks he's still tricking us into thinking he's harmless.
[ flatly. akira wrinkles his nose. ]
And I wouldn't say redeemed. Not really. [ he bites his bottom lip, hard. ] He killed two of my friends' parents, Hibiki. I don't care what his excuse was, he still did it.
Pardon me, I...never mind. [ He got a bit too hopeful right there, didn't he. ] So there really is no other choice than playing along...for everyone's sake.
[ For everyone's sake Akira has to go through all this. Couldn't his boyfriend be a bit more selfish!? Just like he is. ]
You don't have to do that in front of me, though. If...that helps with anything.
[ As much as he'd like to offer a solution to this problem, Hibiki isn't sure what could that be. ]
Akira...are you absolutely sure you don't want stay here longer?
[ His voice is soft and his eyes flick away from Akira to the floor. ]
I understand. Maybe...it's really better that way.
[ He lets go of Akira's hand and scoots away from him, smiling gently. ]
I'm sorry if I wasn't too much of a help. [ The smile only grows wider, it's just as he wants to hide something. ] It might be naive of me, but I think that if it's you...you could help him. I'm sure of it, actually. Do you think you could ever forgive him?
[ that's a loaded question. akira isn't sure how to respond at first. so he just ... sighs and then flops back on the bed entirely, staring at the ceiling. ]
... I don't know. [ a frown. ]
If he was actually sorry - if he actually realized how much of an ass he was being, maybe. ...But it'd be hard. He hurt a lot of people.
[ this is hard. so very hard. every part of akira's moral compass tells him that killing is immoral. no matter what the reason. even if there's a gun to your head you find another way if you can. killing is a last resort and it's rarely ever excused.
so he doesn't answer that question. he takes hibiki's second comment as an escape route. ]
[ Well, killing is immoral. Hibiki is aware of that, but it never bothered him. Not until he got dragged into some world-hopping mission and met someone who became quite important to him over the course of time. He might not fully realize just how important that person is to him, though.
Not getting an answer is suspicious, but Hibiki just plays along without mentioning it. ]
The island must've been really boring for you, I suppose.
