Character name: Hibiki Kohaku
Age: 24
Canon: BlazBlue
Canon point: Post Act 3 of Hibiki's arcade mode in Centralfiction
History: Wiki link

Three key adjectives: Strict, loyal, organized.

Influential Events:
🔪 The Kohaku family
The Kohaku family is shrouded in mystery; there are almost no records of it existing in the history books, and only a few people are aware of its presence. The members of the family have been serving the Mutsuki family for generations and Hibiki is no exception, even though he is said to be resisting his fate at first. Later on, he becomes a secretary to the Mutsuki heir, Kagura. While Hibiki's childhood and his life with the Kohakus haven't been described in the canon in great detail, a certain character from the playable roster makes it possible to have an insight in how Hibiki looked like as a kid. On top of that, the only word Hibiki repeats when the power is in effect is "kill" (link). This is the only hint as for now, but it's enough of a proof that the Kohaku children were trained to become assassins from a very young age. Obviously, this kind of upbringing is reflected in his personality: Hibiki's incredibly loyal to Kagura and it definitely has its roots in the Kohaku family tradition. It is also very likely that him having a darker side has a strong connection to his past. The same goes for Hibiki's wish to become a tool with no emotions. Due to receiving such harsh training, he doesn't tolerate sloppy and lazy people as well and is very strict towards them—Kagura is no exception.

🔪 Kagura's rebellion
Hibiki, being Kagura's right hand, naturally supports his lord when it comes to the plan to overthrow the Imperator who governs the organization that controls the world (Novus Orbis Librarium or NOL for short). Rather than questioning it, he simply agrees and fulfills every single order that Kagura gives him which proves how deep his loyalty for his lord runs—going against the Imperator means going against the whole organization, after all. Since his duties as a captain involve both doing the paperwork and fieldwork, Hibiki is shown to be quite organized and hard-working. For example, when Kagura is injured, he doesn't lose his cool and gives orders to his subordinates to escort the man to a safe place. Besides, although he admires his superior, he doesn't approve of his carefree lifestyle and is actually even more harsh to Kagura than to anyone else.

🔪 Act 1
After being absorbed into the Embryo (which took a form of a new world), everyone's memories were altered and Hibiki was no exception, but this didn't change his position; he is still working under Kagura's orders. During his chase after Hazama, a captain cooperating with the current Imperator, Hibiki meets Nine the Phantom. Thanks to her machinations, Hibiki's suppressed dream is revealed—he would like to become an emotionless tool and murder Kagura whom he's loyal to. Nine even refers to an instance from Hibiki's past and points out that he wanted to assassinate his lord once before. Hibiki denies everything she says, but at the same time, it's obvious how upset he is after she brings it to light. In order to make this dream come true, he's supposed to go after current Imperator and defeat her. It shows how easily he can suppress his emotions, even though sooner or later they will emerge again.

🔪 Act 2
With his new goal in mind, Hibiki pushes forward restlessly until he reaches the Imperator and challenges her to a battle. Despite saying that he has no interest in making his wishes come true (actually, he still denies that he has one in the first place), the Imperator shows him an image of Kagura's dead body crucified by the common people. Such imagery is more than enough to shake him to the core, especially since it's the result of Kagura planning a rebellion—according to the Imperator, he's going to be executed as a traitor, unless he kills Noel Vermillion whose powers make it impossible to change Kagura's fate. Although Hibiki is aware that Kagura cares deeply about Noel and would be against hurting her in any way, he makes a decision to chase her down and save his lord no matter what, even at the cost of being accused of insubordination. Previously loyal to a fault Hibiki shows his other, much darker side at that moment, even if he believes that everything he does is for Kagura Mutsuki's sake.

🔪 Act 3
Before reaching Noel, Hibiki is told that killing her is equal to destroying the world. Still, he doesn't hesitate to stand against her, even though his attacks are ineffective. It becomes clear that it's impossible to murder her, but Hibiki is persistent and doesn't give up—he even claims, that he's going to fight until his own death which shows his determination to save Kagura. Shortly, he meets Hazama again, who mocks him for serving someone else when he should just accept who he is and become an assassin. Before leaving, Hibiki receives a final hint on how to end Noel's life. While it's never said directly, given Hibiki's change throughout the events inside the Embryo, it's likely that he wants his dream to murder Kagura in cold blood come true; otherwise, he probably wouldn't make an attempt to kill Noel Vermillion in order to keep his lord alive in the first place.

Link to Samples: Sample 1 (Balance TDM); Sample 2

Chosen path: Dancer
3 Abilities: Allure, Hex, Hidden Knife
Why this path?: Hibiki's assassin training left him with impeccable reflexes, extraordinary stealth skills, and an excellent assassination technique which somewhat falls in line with what Dancer class has to offer (he'd arrive without his canon abilities). Actually, he's been offered to join a dance troupe in canon, but he had to politely decline, even though the leader of said troupe said that he has potential. Too bad Hibiki's not really interested in dancing...but he'll have no choice now. Playing out him being flustered to use certain skills from this set should be fun, too.

⌈ CHARACTER SECTION ⌉

Character: Hibiki Kohaku
Age: Early to mid 20s
Canon: BlazBlue
Canon Point: Post Centralfiction

Background: Hibiki @ wiki

Personality:
Hibiki Kohaku, mostly known as Kagura Mutsuki’s right hand, is a person who’s incredibly loyal and who will get the work done in one way or another, as soon as it’s possible. At first glance, his loyalty towards Kagura defines him the most as a character since most of the time he’s shown while he’s carrying out various errands for his superior—starting with cooking through paperwork to missions that often require to be done fast and quiet (for instance, bringing Jin Kisaragi to Mutsuki’s office in Ibukido). While he’s not an utterly docile secretary and often gives snarky comments on Kagura’s behavior (usually when his boss is somewhere nearby, of course), Hibiki deeply admires him despite his faults and is honored to be of a help for the head of the Mutsuki family.

Or that’s what he thought before his meeting with Nine in his arcade mode, at least. His shock upon seeing the vision of him assassinating the person he’s working for is no act and, to some extent, he’s disgusted that she’s using such illusions. However, as the time goes by, Hibiki begins to question himself—he was trained to be an assassin and yet he ended up walking a completely different path, after all. It only shows how absorbed he is with his work, or more generally, in everything else but himself. All this time, he’s been thinking that his wish is the same as Kagura’s, but a complete outsider manages to prove him wrong and sows the seeds of doubt. Repressing his feelings and thoughts leads him to ignoring Kagura’s orders even though Hibiki believes he’s acting accordingly to his superior’s will. In the end, Hibiki doesn’t get the chance to make his wish come true, so whether his admiration for Kagura is fake or not remains unresolved. Given his rather emotional reactions to other people who suggested that he wishes to kill his superior, there’s a chance that he wouldn’t follow his own dream, even though he can't exactly deny its existence.

That said, generally, Hibiki is anything but impetuous. Stoic at all times, he rarely snaps at other people for no reason (and when he does, expect the person to be hammered with his critique), but he happens to be surrounded by rather sloppy people who can’t get their job done in a timely manner. Actually, he’s even said to be “the only reason any NOL admin work gets done in the city of Ibukido”, which speaks for itself. It doesn’t mean, however, that he doesn’t slip various critical remarks into the conversations. To be quite honest, he does that a lot, and even though they’re rather subtle most of the times, it doesn’t take a genius to catch up with what he meant.

At the same time, Hibiki can be really polite which is shown in the honorific language he uses and, obviously, in his behavior. He knows his place as a secretary and a captain of NOL and on top of that, he’s also the type to follow procedures no matter what. Because of that, he’s strict towards others and won’t let private matters diffuse into work, which, to his dismay, his superior does at least once a day.

In conclusion, Hibiki is a character of many contradictions, especially if we take his relationship with Kagura Mutsuki into account. He’s both loyal to Kagura and yet there seems to be a seething murder intent hidden within him which is undoubtedly connected to his past and his training as an assassin. Most of the time, he remains silent and collected, although he doesn’t refrain from belittling the people who don’t carry out their duties as they’re expected to.
Abilities:
  • Drive: Double Chase
Hibiki's drive allows him to create a shadow clone of himself and to exchange positions with said clone.
  • Overdrive: Schwarz Reis
Once the overdrive is activated, the movement speed of the clones increases.
  • Stealth
Trained in arts of stealth and assassination, Hibiki can sneak up to someone completely unseen.
  • Combat skills
Hibiki is a skilled fighter whose weapons of choice are cutter-like dual swords. Here is an overview of his various attacks in-game.

Alignment: Piphron; his most defining trait is his loyalty to Kagura. His arcade mode in Centralfiction shows that his hidden desire might be to kill the man he is serving, and while it's not confirmed whether it's true or not in-game, it makes Hibiki doubt himself on various occassions.
Other: If possible, he'll arrive with his round crow and his twin swords.

Headcanons
» According to the family tradition, Hibiki began his assassin training at the age of four, just like the other children from the Kohaku family. The training is usually completed by the age of nine as long as the child survives it. It's rather demanding not only physically but mentally, too. In order to become an assassin acknowledged by the Kohaku family, the trainee is supposed to assassinate a person chosen by their mentor.

» Hibiki's mentor was his father, who was very strict with him, not only during the training, but in general as well. Apparently, he could tell that Hibiki would become a promising assassin. At the same time, he wasn't really fond of Kagura Mutsuki, whom Hibiki would serve in the future.

» On top of receiving training, children of the Kohaku are assigned to their masters' at the age of two. That's when they meet their master for the first time—most of them doesn't even remember that meeting. most of the masters don't care about their servants growth, but kagura enjoyed spending time with hibiki, even if it was just once in a while.

» kagura would often tease him that if hibiki wants to be free, he needs to kill him. as a result, hibiki was fixated on the idea for a long time.

» a few years later, hibiki's father ordered him to kill kagura and hibiki agreed. however, despite the training, he couldn't bring himself to assassinate him, even though he could've easily done it. later on, kagura would reveal that he knew all along what hibiki had been trying to do, but believed in him.

» after that failed attempt, kagura realized that hibiki would met a certain death. For that reason, he took him away from the kohaku family, hoping that he'd be able to protect hibiki from them.

» eventually, hibiki attended the Military Academy thanks to Kagura's recommendation. he graduated with excellent grades and secured himself a position of kagura's secretary and would become a captain one year after the graduation.

In the end, Hibiki doesn’t get the chance to make his wish come true, so whether his admiration for Kagura is fake or not remains a mystery. Although given his impetuous reactions to other people suggesting him to kill his superior, there’s a chance that he wouldn’t follow his own dream, even though he can't exactly deny its existence.

That said, generally, Hibiki is anything but impetuous. Stoic at all times, he rarely snaps at other people (and when he does, expect the person to be hammered with his critique), even though he’s surrounded by rather sloppy people who can’t get their job done in a timely manner.

He knows his place as a secretary and a captain of NOL and on top of that he’s also the type to follow procedures no matter what.

[Whether it's just a mere folly or genuine curiousness, Hibiki can't tell. And yet, he finds himself wandering around one of the many shrines. It's still early in the morning—dawn has just broken—so nobody is up and around yet. He didn't go on a stroll alone to seek anybody's companionship, after all.

His gaze flickers from one prayer to another; it's quite interesting how many of them are there and how different they are from each other. Good grades, health, love, friendship are just a few examples of what people wrote on the wooden plaques.]

They're probably not even giving their best, just hope that one of the gods flick their fingers and make whatever they want happen.

[That's one harsh opinion, but he doesn't quite understand the sentiment. Rather than wish for something, shouldn't they make an effort to achieve it on their own? This is how he does it, so it's not impossible. But there's a question lingering somewhere in the back of his mind:

"Are you entirely sure this is the only good method?"

Hibiki pushes the thought away, however, and fixes the collar of his cloak. As he's about to walk away, he notices one plaque on the ground where it most certainly shouldn't be. Once he picks it up, Hibiki starts looking for a good place to hang it on. Before that happens, though, his gaze wanders off to the words written on the wood.

Please, help my friend come back to health.

Hibiki sighs softly; it's definitely not one of those wishes you can make come true just by yourself, that much is clear.

The wooden plaque ends up in his pocket as he heads off to investigate the matter further. Whether his god will agree to intervene or not, Hibiki doesn't know that yet, but maybe if he's going to be persistent enough about it...

This is one of the things he's really good at, after all.]
